High end automotive manufacturer McLaren has announced it will produce a limited run of 100 commemorative cars to mark the company’s 50th birthday.
The special McLaren 12C is designed to celebrate 50 years of race winning technology from McLaren. Production of the limited edition will be no more than 100 globally and will be split between 50 12C and 50 12C spider derivatives.
The limited edition vehicles will feature anniversary styling and specification enhancements and will be made by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) which delivers various bespoke projects for the automotive group. The McLaren Automotive design team are also closely involved in the development of the two models.
Refine computational fluid dynamics have been used in the development of these two one-off models and carbon fibre is to be used extensively – forming both the lower bumper and front floor.
The latter will be made from race-derived carbon Kevlar. The car will also carry the coveted McLaren F1-inspired heritage badge and other McLaren 50th anniversary logos. Colour options for the car will be limited to three: carbon black, supernova silver or heritage McLaren orange.
Each limited edition car will come with a price tag of £196,000, or £215,500 for the McLaren 50 12C Spider.
McLaren officially celebrates its 50th anniversary this September.
