British automotive manufacturer Morgan has made a splash with its new Eva GT at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance motorsport event.
Morgan Motors has unveiled its new four-seater coupe, the Eva GT, at Pebble Beach. The design details of the latest addition to Morgan’s growing portfolio were released earlier this year titillating Morgan fans with a glimpse of super modern lines and curves.
Speaking with Morgan managing director, Charles Morgan, TM discovered that “this will be Morgan’s first real foray into making a car designed for everyday use. Our other models are meant for weekend driving; luxury second cars for motorsport enthusiasts. The Eva could conceivable be the primary car in a household.” Morgan said that there are high hopes for the new model and that if it proves successful there are plans for company expansion.
The confident terms in which Morgan spoke have perhaps been buoyed in the last year by repeated accolades at awards ceremonies – the company swept to success at TMs own Manufacturer of the Year Awards in their centenary year and they are now one of ten finalists in HSBC’s European Business Awards.
Since stepping into his role as MD Charles Morgan has driven an aggressive innovation programme at Morgan and after a period of product stagnation in the 70s and 80s the company has launched 11 new models in the last decade.
Despite being a departure in some respects from traditional Morgan characteristics the Eva GT maintains the company’s commitment to stylish design, lightweight materials and high performance. The Eva GT will be powered by 306-horsepower BMW engine weighs in at 2,750 pounds. Morgan also claims it should gets around 40 miles per gallon and boast an acceleration of 0-to-62-mph time of 4.5 seconds.
