UK aerospace manufacturing innovation and competitiveness will get a boost next month when cutting-edge research and development and industry insights will be centre stage at a new event being held at the Manufacturing Technology Centre.
Innovation in Aerospace Manufacturing on February 7 will bring together industry leaders to share their strategic direction, priorities and insights. The event will provide some of the country’s most innovative companies with an opportunity to showcase their capabilities, and facilitate collaboration across the whole aerospace manufacturing supply chain including industry, academia and research institutions.
The new event, organised by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult (HVM Catapult), will disseminate insights from a set of SPRINT projects recently delivered by HVM Catapult’s seven centres and partners, supported and monitored by the ATI and Innovate UK
HVM Catapult’s Katy Milne, a programme director with a wealth of experience working on ATI projects, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the aerospace industry to come together and share their technology advances, innovations, equipment and experience.”
Alex Hickson, head of technology at the ATI, said, “This showcase event provides a chance to see the great work completed by the HVMC and partners working with industry. We want to move some key strategic topics forward, engage in a discussion on the future direction of these important manufacturing technologies, and explore how new innovations can be harnessed for the benefit of UK aerospace and its supply chain.
Innovation in Aerospace Manufacturing will focus on five main themes:
- Assembly, particularly automated assembly of aerospace components.
- Casting, looking at repeatable casting of critical structural parts
- Net Shape and Additive manufacturing, with a focus on large scale components
- Composites, design, manufacture and recycling of composites, particularly in high temperature applications.
- Sustainable aviation fuels, both formulation and manufacture
Speakers at the event will include Alex Hickson, head of technology for structures, manufacturing and materials at the Aerospace Technology Institute, John Morlidge, deputy director for aerospace at Innovate UK, Neil Mantle, director of manufacturing at Rolls-Royce, Colin Mitchell, head of Wing Industrial Architecture at Airbus, and John Kells, European head of operations for ZeroAvia.
As part of the ATI’s new initiative, the ATI Hub, this showcase event also provides an opportunity for innovative manufacturing suppliers to present their work to industry leaders. Companies interested in presenting their work through exhibition stands and presentations are invited to contact the ATI Hub team at airtable.com/shrNVrOeXYT6aOSQV.
