Dairy manufacturer Müller UK & Ireland has announced that applications for its 2026 apprenticeship intake are now open, coinciding with National Apprenticeship Week.
Posting on LinkedIn, the company, which employs 338,000 people throughout Europe, said it was “proud to celebrate our brilliant apprentices and the impact they continue to make across our business”.
When it comes to engineering and manufacturing apprenticeships, Müller has two distinct offerings available, designed to immerse individuals into roles that are central to the company’s complex dairy manufacturing environment.
Engineering apprenticeship: Multi-skilled technicians for modern manufacturing
The Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship is a four-year programme placing apprentices directly in Müller’s UK dairies, where they work alongside seasoned engineering teams and contribute to the maintenance and continued improvement of manufacturing machinery and systems.
Apprentices are involved in maintaining critical plant assets, working on continuous improvement projects, diagnosing faults and supporting automated systems that ensure Müller’s filling and packing lines operate safely and efficiently. The role gives trainees hands-on exposure to electrical, mechanical and automation disciplines while studying toward a recognised engineering qualification.
Training combines on-site work with classroom-based learning delivered by industry training partners. Apprentices are supported by workplace mentors, academic coaches and a dedicated engineering skills team, helping them turn real-world experience into formal technical expertise. There is also potential to progress into Müller’s Engineering Degree Apprenticeships, highlighting the scope of long-term career development available within the business.
Manufacturing Academy: Foundations in food production
Complementing the Engineering pathway, Müller’s Level 3 Manufacturing Academy apprenticeship offers a two-year route into production and operations roles across its manufacturing sites. Apprentices are immersed in the day-to-day duties of a production operator, working with automated equipment and supporting production line activities that deliver millions of units of milk, yoghurt, desserts and other dairy products to UK shelves.
Participants learn to manage line start-ups and shut-downs, undertake changeovers, monitor process performance and uphold stringent food safety, hygiene and compliance standards — all essential in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The programme blends hands-on production experience with a Level 3 qualification in Food & Drink Technical Operations delivered in partnership with the University of Lincoln, including block study weeks supported by Müller.
Apprentices are embedded into operational teams from day one, gaining problem-solving skills, operational knowledge and the foundation for long-term careers in manufacturing. They also benefit from a supportive framework of mentors, academic coaches and the Early Careers team throughout their journey.
A pipeline for UK Manufacturing
The expanded apprenticeship offering reflects Müller’s commitment to tackling skills shortages across food processing and manufacturing by nurturing talent from within. Alongside engineering and manufacturing pathways, Müller also supports apprenticeships in laboratory science, logistics and vehicle maintenance, collectively forming a pipeline of early careers talent across its UK operations.
