Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and environmental business support service, ENWORKS has launched a new award to find the best green business in the city.
The initiative opened for applications this week and the deadline for entries is December 9. There is no fee to enter.
Organisations of all sizes and sectors are eligible to apply, including both Chamber members and non-members. There are two categories available: small business, for those with fewer than 250 employees, and large business, 250 or more employees.
The shortlist for each category will be announced by mid-January 2012 and the overall winners will be presented with trophies at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner, taking place at the Manchester Central Convention Complex on March 8.
Clive Memmott, the Chamber’s chief executive commented: “The launch of our new Greater Manchester Green Business Award is an exciting opportunity to celebrate forward-thinking businesses and organisations that are benefiting from making the transition towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient future.
“The Chamber is committed to promoting the sustainable business agenda and supporting all of its members to boost their profitability and competitiveness by improving their environmental performance.”
ENWORKS is also the organisation behind the Northwest Business Environment Awards, an RSA-accredited feeder scheme for the European Business Awards for the Environment.

Earlier this year ENWORKS won NGO of the Year at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards. The publicly funded programme provides free, one-to-one support for businesses across the North West, to improve their profitability by using resources such as energy, water and materials more efficiently.
