The new Manufacturing Technology Centre near Coventry has stated it will create 250 jobs by 2014 to support key industry research around robotics, electronics and tooling and fixturing.
The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) has moved into new premises on Ansty Park.
The new centre has cost £40m and forms part of a 140,000 m2 business park previously owned by Advantage West Midlands, the regional development agency for the area. This has now been replaced with local enterprise partnerships.
The MTC was established in response to the government report Manufacturing: New Challenges, New Opportunities’, published in September 2008.
The same site was the scene of controversy and industrial loss last year when Ericson withdrew its business and 700 jobs were scrapped.
Yesterday the new incumbents at the site pledged that they would create 250 jobs by 2014.
30 people are currently employed at the centre and there are plans to double this number by April next year.
MTC says it aims to put the creation and sharing of knowledge at the heart of its future development. Staff at the site will work closely with the established manufacturing expertise available locally at Warwick University and help progress ideas for commercial exploitation.
A spokesperson from MTC said:”We want to take a concept and move it onto industry by getting our engineers to talk to firms’ engineers to test and validate first so it can go into use without extra cost for manufacturers.”
Key areas of manufacturing research at the new MTC centre at Ansty Park will include robotics, electronics and tooling and fixturing.
