A new London taxi designed by Japanese automotive manufacturer Nissan is to be assembled in Coventry as part of a £6m joint investment with ADV Manufacturing.
The 1.6 litre petrol-engine cabs, to be assembled at a new purpose built plant, will hit the streets of London in December 2014.
The vehicles, announced earlier this month, will be shipped from Nissan’s factory in Barcelona to the ADV plant in Coventry for final assembly.
An all-electric variant of the black cab, the final design of which was unveiled in London earlier this year, will launched in 2015.
The investment is also set to result in job creation, with ADV confirming it has already made steps to taking on more production staff.
Brendan O’Toole, CEO of ADV Manufacturing LTD, said in The Coventry Telegraph: “This is great news for ADV and indeed for the city of Coventry.
“With Coventry University turning out world class engineers and the city itself being steeped in a rich automotive manufacturing history, we couldn’t be located in a better place to launch such an exciting and prestigious project as the New Taxi for London.”
