North Wales manufacturing investment

Glen Dimplex, the global electrical heating specialist, is to open a new facility in North Wales.

The investment will create 50 new jobs and will be achieved with support from the Welsh government.

The factory will specialise in manufacturing Glen Dimplex’s professional appliances which include refrigeration for hospitals, pharmacies and laboratories.

Headquartered in Ireland, Glen Dimplex was founded in 1973, has an annual turnover of €1.5billion and employs 10,000 people worldwide.

Some of the company’s best known brands are Dimplex, Stoves, New World, Belling, LEC, Redring Xpelair, Goblin, Roberts Radio.

The company sees the North Wales region, particularly Buckley where its factory will be located, as a high value manufacturing hub and believes the facility will enable it to better service demand in the UK and internationally.

Commenting on the investment announcement Mark Abbott, managing director of Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances said: “As well as enabling us to consolidate our manufacturing base in the UK, this new facility will enable us to capitalise on new and lucrative business opportunities.

Recruitment for the new factory is to start immediately.

Commenting on the jobs boost and the opportunities Glen Dimplex will bring to North Wales the Welsh economy minister Edwina Hart said: “Glen Dimplex’s decision to expand to Buckley is great news for the area.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to work with the company to secure this project in Wales. It fits well with our aspirations to attract new inward investment companies, especially in the manufacturing sector which is the focus of the nearby Deeside Enterprise Zone.”
