Northern Foods has announced a planned investment of £40 million which will involve the merging of two Fox’s Biscuits sites into one so-called “super site”.
The Batley and Uttoxeter factories are to be combined onto one single site by 2011, though it has not yet been decided which of the two will be chosen as the “super-site” location and which will close. Staff affected by the closure will be offered work at the alternative site.
A period of consultation has now begun and the final plans are set to be announced in early 2009.
“We intend to invest in a state-of-the-art biscuits factory for the business – the best in the UK – specially designed to manufacture Fox’s great quality biscuits efficiently,” said chief executive Stefan Barden.
“The resulting cost savings will ensure that even more money is available to invest in and grow the business, securing its future for yet another generation.”
