This Wednesday, manufacturing businesses are invited to an open day at the new Renishaw Centre for Manufacturing Productivity at the University of Greenwich.
Ian Cakebread, manager of the centre, says: “This is an opportunity to see how the centre can benefit your business with a range of practical training courses, and access to the latest tools and systems.”
The centre is a collaboration between the university and Renishaw, one of Britain’s largest engineering firms. The company has kept the majority of its UK manufacturing base by making its processes extremely efficient, and is now passing on some of its expertise through the centre’s vocational training programmes.
The centre’s aim is to help businesses become more efficient by teaching staff to use the latest manufacturing systems and production techniques. It was officially opened by Jonathan Shaw MP (Minister for the South East) on 22 October of this year.
Shaw praised the collaboration: “Partnerships between universities and business are crucial to give the manufacturing sector the skills and knowledge to compete in a challenging market. The Renishaw Centre is an excellent example of collaboration to meet this challenge.”
The latest machining facilities will be demonstrated at the open day, staff will be offering training advice, and there will be productivity presentations by Haas, SolidCAM and WNT. Visitors are welcome at any time between 9am and 4.30pm, though there are seminars scheduled throughout the day.
