The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) Quarterly Trends Survey has shown a pronounced increase in orders for the technology sector during the fourth quarter of 2007.
The survey (based on responses from 105 Association members) showed order intake to be +5.0 per cent higher than in the third quarter of 2007, with an overall prediction of a further +0.8 per cent rise for the first quarter of 2008.
“The results of this survey continue to reflect the positive trends in the engineering sector of the UK economy and to highlight the unnecessary speculation about a recession in the UK,” said MTA statistician Geoff Noon.
“Demand for engineering products remains strong in Europe as well and the recent fall in the value of sterling against the euro is good news for the UK companies whose export activities are focused on Europe,” he added.
