Perovskite photovoltaic (PV) specialist Oxford PV has joined a major UK-led R&D programme aimed at integrating solar technology into electric vehicles to improve efficiency and extend range.
The company is participating in the SUITE (Smart Use of Integrated Technology for EV) project, a collaborative initiative supported by the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) through the government-backed DRIVE35 programme, delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.
The consortium includes Nissan Technical Centre UK, alongside engineering firms and universities, working to develop next-generation vehicle-integrated solar panels.
Oxford PV will contribute its perovskite-on-silicon solar technology, applying its high-efficiency, lightweight photovoltaic solutions to automotive applications where performance and design flexibility are critical.
Chief executive David Ward said the collaboration would help unlock “a step change in solar performance” and enable new opportunities for vehicle-integrated energy generation.
Vehicle-integrated solar systems can generate power during normal operation, supporting improved efficiency and helping to extend EV range, with perovskite-based cells offering high power density in a lightweight format.
The company said its involvement in SUITE highlights its ambition to expand perovskite PV technology beyond traditional energy generation and into next-generation electric mobility solutions.
