The union Unite has reached a deal with the paper manufacturing industries of the UK and will recommend to its members that they accept a 2.5% pay rise.
The agreement comes after 48 hours worth of discussions with the twenty paper-making plants in the UK which conform to the Papermaking Partnership Agreement. Between them they employ 2,500 Unite members.
Peter Ellis, Unite national officer for the sector, said: “We recognise that the current economic climate would make these tough negotiations but we are pleased to say that we were able to reach a deal, reflecting the spirit of cooperation within the paper manufacturing industry.
“This deal represents a settlement at the upper level of median pay awards in the industry. The union will ballot its members in the new year with a strong recommendation for acceptance.”
The pay increase will be effected on February 1, 2011.
