Managing director of Premier Mould Services Liam Eley ordered the machine at the recent MACH exhibition – making his company the first company in the UK to own a Milltap 700 machine.
The machine is the result of a working partnership between German manufacturer DMG and Mori Seiki of Japan, and has a capacity of qualities of 700 by 420 by 380?mm capacity, while axis performance sees acceleration of 16 m/s² and axis feed rates of 60 m/min.
Mr Eley commented: “While mould/die work and small runs will continue to be a core part of our activities, it is our intention to move more strongly into high volume production work.
He added: “About a third of our business is 24/7 machining of components in batches of up to 10,000-off in materials ranging from plastics to titanium. The MillTap 700 will strengthen this side of the business, but will also assist in mould making by increasing the efficiency with which we can machine electrodes for our spark eroders.”
