Protesters want to get wind rolling

A group of around 40 campaigners staged a demonstration outside Rolls-Royce’s nuclear manufacturing facility in Derby yesterday in an attempt to persuade the company to focus its talents on building wind turbines.

The event was organised by Trident Ploughshare, the peaceful protest group more commonly associated with nuclear weapon disarmament.

One of the group, Tamar Morten-Jones, said: “Rolls-Royce could help in building the world a safer future by developing and manufacturing wind turbines which currently have to be imported.”

A spokesperson for the firm responded by reiterating that Rolls are currently funding new turbine design projects.
