Consumer healthcare manufacturer Reckitt is investing up to $600m across two US sites to expand manufacturing capacity, strengthen its R&D capabilities and improve supply resilience.

The multi-year investment will include a new science and innovation centre in New Jersey and a major expansion of Reckitt’s largest over-the-counter (OTC) manufacturing facility in the US, located in North Carolina.

Reckitt employs more than 4,000 people across seven manufacturing sites and three science and innovation centres in the US.

Expanding US manufacturing capacity

The company has doubled its initial investment in the North Carolina facility, which is expected to open in the first half of 2027.

The expanded site will become Reckitt’s largest OTC manufacturing facility in the US, with additional production capacity for Mucinex tablets and liquids, as well as increased volumes of Move Free.

The investment will also significantly increase the facility’s physical footprint, providing additional space for future production, greater manufacturing flexibility and new capabilities as demand changes.

Reckitt said the expansion will help strengthen its supply resilience and support reliable access to healthcare products for US consumers.

New R&D and innovation centre

Alongside the manufacturing investment, Reckitt will establish a new science and innovation centre at its North American campus in New Jersey.

The centre will focus on disinfection, microbiology, surface care, laundry care and personal care, and will form part of Reckitt’s global R&D network.

The company said bringing R&D and commercial teams together will help accelerate the development of new products from initial research through to production.

With a legacy dating to 1892, Reckitt has maintained a significant presence across the U.S. for more than a century. Today’s investments will continue building our scientific leadership and R&D, drive new innovations and expand our infrastructure allowing Reckitt to increase access for consumers to high-quality health products.

The investment will expand Reckitt’s manufacturing and innovation capabilities in the US while creating additional capacity to support future demand.
