Machine tool manufacturer, Yamazaki Mazak, enjoyed another highly successful Open House in November, with a record number of attendees visiting its European Technology Centre (ETC), Worcester.

Alongside the high attendance figures, Mazak witnessed a surge in machine demand following the event with £3m of orders recorded.

Mazak displayed 20 state-of-the-art machines, alongside cutting edge technologies for programming, automation and factory management. Multi-axis machines including the INTEGREX and VARIAXIS series took centre stage. November’s Open House was also the first in the UK to feature the INTEGREX i-630V, which has been specifically designed for heavy duty machining and is equipped with a large machining area of 1050mm x 1000mm, which makes it ideal for machining larger workpieces.

Also on display was the SVIA Robot Guarding System, a robotic safety system which stops machine operation if a human presence is detected within a designated danger zone close to the working machine.

The company also broke new ground though the use of augmented reality technology at the event. Visitors were able to download Mazak’s own app to smart devices such as iPhones or iPads and use specific trigger points located around the ETC to find out additional machine information and add an extra dimension to the event.

Richard Smith, Managing Director UK and Ireland Sales Division, said: “Our post-event sales figures illustrate the strength of the confidence in the machining and subcontract manufacturing sector. It is the culmination of a fantastic sales year for Mazak, and we are looking forward to continuing this success in 2013.”
