Record number of graduates apply for Jaguar Land Rover jobs

Posted on 20 Jan 2012

Jaguar Land Rover has received 10,632 applications for its graduate recruitment places this year as it continues its recruitment drive to support a multibillion pound investment plan for new product creation.

Applications are 61% higher than in 2011 and are five times higher than they were just three years ago. For 2012, graduates will be hired for a variety of roles across the business – from product development engineering, manufacturing, finance, human resources, marketing, sales, IT and purchasing.

Jaguar Land Rover HR director, Des Thurlby, said: “Seeing the number of graduate applications increase five-fold in three years reflects the increasingly positive perception graduates have of our business. The recruits will be joining us at an exciting time, and once on-board, we will work hard to ensure that their careers with us will be both challenging and exciting.”

Mr Thurlby noted that in addition to the graduate milkround, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) continues to recruit for hundreds of positions from shop floor to senior management across a whole range of business functions.

“In 2011, the Company handled more than 45,000 applications from candidates wanting to join us on our exciting journey,” said Thurlby. “I am delighted that we continue to receive so many applications from such high quality candidates.”

The long-term investment at JLR has been cited as a reason behind its climb up the influential Times Top 100 Graduate Employers list in 2011, moving up 27 places. Engineering jobs came third for the type of vacancies available with the UK’s leading employers, 38% of employers in the list searching for graduates to fill this type of role.

However, engineering companies’ positions fell overall, making JLR‘s rise even more impressive. One of the biggest fallers was civil and structural engineering design firm Atkins, which fell from 37 to 52 on the chart. Other manufacturing companies on the list include:

14. GlaxoSmithKline

26. Rolls-Royce

36. BAE Systems

46. Arup (Engineering)

52. Atkins (Engineering)
