Renishaw has been presented with the 14th Queens Award for Enterprise in its history, for the development of the TRS2 – a laser-based, non-contact broken tool detection system.

Dame Janet Trotter, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, was welcomed by company chief executive and chairman Sir David McMurtry onto the site in Wotton-under-Edge to present the award. Together with Rebecca Lane, who represented the many Renishaw employees connected with the TRS2 product, Sir David accepted the Award in the form of a crystal bowl engraved with the Queen’s Award Emblem.

Describing the company as “the jewel in Gloucestershire’s crown”, Dame Janet presented Renishaw with its 14th Queen’s Award since its formation in 1973 which places the company in the county’s record books. “Renishaw is a consistently high achiever with the highest number of Queen’s Awards in Gloucestershire,” she said.

Renishaw also recently announced record turnover and profit with revenue for the year totalling £288.7 million, 59% more than last year and 43% above the previous highest year’s revenue in 2008.

Sir David, who was recently formally accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Society, said: “The directors confidently expect the current progress of the group to continue due to the increased opportunities and the underlying strength of our markets.”
