Rolls-Royce wins Saudi military jet contract

Engine-maker Rolls-Royce has signed a four-year contract to support engines powering Tornado military jets owned by the Royal Saudi Air Force.

The contract follows a deal between the governments of the UK and Saudi Arabia governments to modernise the armed forces of the Middle Eastern country.

Rolls-Royce agreed to repair components and provide a package of new spares for the Tornado’s RB199 engines with the Saudi Maintenance and Supply Chain Management Company, which acts as the logistics supplier to BAE Systems in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is keen to develop its own industrial defence sector and has negotiated that Rolls-Royce assist the Middle East Propulsion Company to build up its capability to support military jets and carriers.
