Nissan is to launch a new 24 hour production schedule at its Sunderland plant in response to soaring consumer demand for the Qashqai crossover.
The night shift has created 800 new jobs at the site and all new recruits will be working on the Qashqai line, with output set to rise from 4,500 to 6,100 units per week once the shift gets up to speed.
The extended operating hours will also account for expected demand of the new Qashqai +2, which is to be unveiled at the London Motor Show and will go on sale in September.
