Universities and Science Minister Jo Johnson will make his first science visit to IBM's Hartree Centre at Daresbury Laboratory today.
The Minister will announce a new partnership with IBM to help businesses make the best use of big data to boost productivity and drive growth.
The Minister will be given a tour of the facility, including a demonstration of the practical applications of big data for business in the Centre’s Visualisation Suite, before announcing the new partnership with David Stokes, UK Chief Executive of IBM.
The partnership with IBM builds on £113 million government investment to expand the Hartree Centre announced in the Autumn Statement. It will give businesses access to the computing and big data analysis capabilities of the Hartree Centre, including IBM’s Watson cognitive computing platform.
By combining IBM’s research and intellectual property assets with those of the Hartree Centre, the project is said to have the potential to generate millions of pounds of additional economic value to North West England over the next five years.
