A 30-metre statue to be completed in 2015 and an engineering firm were among the winners at the Sheffield Business Awards on Friday.

The Man of Steel, a large steel effigy of a sitting man that is expected to become one of the main landmarks of the Sheffield region when it is completed in two years, won the Next Best Thing Award.

The statue is expected to promote engineering and salute Sheffield’s steel-making tradition. It will overlook the M1 motorway.

Newburgh Engineering, a precision engineering company based in Rotherham, won the Excellence in Manufacturing Award. The business is currently recruiting six advanced apprentices (closing date for applications in March 31).
