Smart Hub Lanarkshire - the centre of excellence for manufacturing innovation and robotics – has teamed up with Business Gateway to offer focused support to Lanarkshire’s manufacturing sector during the month of June.
The Smart Hub, which is a partnership between North Lanarkshire Council, New College Lanarkshire and the University of Strathclyde, is home to a robotics and automation training facility and a dedicated space for SMEs to meet, learn and access business support and academic expertise.
The programme of six free events, entitled “Manufacturing Month”, kicks off with a Launch Event at Pitreavie Packaging Solutions in Cumbernauld on Tuesday 7th June, 9.30am – 11.30am. This event will spotlight the importance of manufacturing to Lanarkshire’s economy and set the scene for a month of sector-focused events.
Guest speaker Stephen Heslop, Managing Director at Pitreavie Group will share Pitreavie’s investment and scale-up story, and guests will also hear from Paul Sheerin, Chief Executive at Scottish Engineering and Barry Skea, Head of Science & Technology at New College Lanarkshire. Delegates will also learn about available grant funding for capital and infrastructure projects, and join a tour of Pitreavie’s manufacturing facility.

The Manufacturing Month programme also includes:
- Get Set to Innovate – Thursday 9th June, 10am -12 noon at Smart Hub Lanarkshire This event will help manufacturing businesses to understand and embrace innovation, using it as a tool for improvement and development activity within the business.
- What does sustainability and the circular economy mean for the Manufacturing Sector? – Monday 16th June, 10am -12.30pm (online)
- This webinar will enable businesses to assess their sustainability by challenging current practices and considering the adoption of circular business models to minimise future environmental impact.
- Get hands on with Cobots for Lanarkshire manufacturers – Wednesday 22nd June, 9.30-11.30am This event will demonstrate how Cobots can help automate processes in your manufacturing workplace.
