Assembly Solutions Ltd, the specialist in electrical wiring assemblies and components, has been awarded the SME Business of the Year Award at the Bolton and Bury Business Awards.

ASL fought off stiff competition to win the award for the prestigious category, which came after a year of impressive expansion. The judges recognised the values of the business and the fact that year on year ASL has continued to grow, with orders up 100% on 2010.

Graham Balshaw, managing director, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and a great endorsement for our overall plans. I have a good team of people working within the business and am proud of what we have achieved over the past 15 years.” Balshaw is actively looking at new premises and hopes to move before the end of this year in order to facilitate the continued growth of the business.

ASL is well on target to achieve its 10-year plan of hitting a £10 million turnover by 2020. Balshaw commented: “We have built a solid customer base without being too exposed by dealing in just one sector. When the recent financial crisis hit automotive hard we were able to diversify and strengthen our work in the electronics sector, as well as winning new orders in the growing nuclear market. Our business model is one of sustainable growth, without falling into the trap of overtrading. We constantly invest in the skills of our workforce and equipment making us extremely competitive.”

The sixth annual Bolton and Bury Business Awards were hailed a success by all who attended. The judges were impressed by the dedication and levels of commitment demonstrated by the winners.

Established in 1995, ASL now employs over 40 people at its purpose built facility in Bolton and has supply partners in China for materials and assemblies. It is now very much an international company with almost 20% of sales exported, much of this to the highly competitive markets of the Far East.
