SMMT to collaborate with brewers

April Fools: The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and the brewing industry are to work together to examine possible ways of cutting the costs and environmental impact of transport systems.

“Specifically, we’re looking at the possibility of freeze drying beer,” explained SMMT manager of commercial vehicle affairs Robin Dickeson. “There seem to be some real opportunities here; beer is around 99.5 per cent water, so if we could freeze dry it, deliver powder by road and the water through normal water mains, we’d have a winner.”

Should the tests prove successful, it is hoped the same principle can be applied to other products such as wine.
