SSI Schaefer turns 75

Posted on 24 Jun 2013

Logistics and storage solutions specialist SSI Schaefer is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The company was founded by Fritz-Schaefer in 1937 in Germany, a manufacturer of transport containers, heating pipes and bottle cranes. The expansion in other countries first took place in the 1960s, with the opening of two foreign companies, in Basingstoke, UK and Neunkirch, Switzerland.

The organisation grew globally in the mid-1980s, and in 2000 the SSI Schaefer Group was formed.

Today, SSI Schaefer calls itself a “total solutions provider” of storage and plant equipment. It is present in every continent.

Indicating where the business is heading, Jaap Vos, managing directors of SSI Schaefer UK, said: “Customers are progressively looking for suppliers that can provide a multi-faceted solution, providing a combined approach that includes both static and automated storage and picking. More and more of them are now after working partners that can provide them with the confidence that a project can be handed over and followed through to completion, knowing all aspects of design, build, installation and smooth integration of additional contractors will be managed efficiently and effectively.”
