TAAG and University of Bristol Business School launch the Advanced Manufacturing Observatory

Posted on 30 Jul 2026 by The Manufacturer

TAAG Global and the University of Bristol Business School today announced a strategic partnership to launch the Advanced Manufacturing Observatory. A live intelligence and knowledge platform designed to equip manufacturers and investors with the business model frameworks, commercial strategies, and market intelligence to compete, and win, in a permanently changed industrial world.

The observatory joins Bristol’s recently launched M&A Observatory, creating a dual platform that operates across both sides of modern industrialisation. The capital flows and deal architecture shaping the sector, and the business model and commercialisation intelligence that determines whether individual manufacturers convert favourable conditions into profitable, scalable enterprises. Together, they represent something the sector has never had, a continuous, evidence-based intelligence layer running at the same speed as industry.

The most urgent questions in advanced manufacturing are no longer technical. They are now about business model design, how to cross the chasm from technology to industrial scale, and how organisations build the resilience to grow sustainably in an environment that is shifting. This partnership is built to answer them, and to ensure those answers reach industry everywhere they are needed.
Professor Jennifer Johns, School Research Director, University of Bristol Business School

Advanced manufacturing accelerating scale and profitability

The technology works, and the market is real. The question is whether the businesses built around it are architecturally ready to profit from it, and whether their leaders understand the forces now permanently redrawing the competitive landscape.

Advanced manufacturing is being reshaped by forces that are as much commercial and geopolitical as they are technological. Alongside our M&A Observatory, this partnership gives us live industrial intelligence from businesses navigating those forces right now, and the research infrastructure to turn that intelligence into something the whole sector can learn from.
Professor Brian Squire, Dean, University of Bristol Business School

This partnership exists to answer that question at scale. Shifting supply chain architecture, changing customer buying behaviours, geopolitical realignment, and sustainability legislation now embedded in procurement decisions are structural forces, not cyclical headwinds. The Advanced Manufacturing Observatory is composed of world leading experts in their fields.

It will build on this existing expertise to provide data, bi-directional knowledge exchange with industry, and commercial solutions. The partnership will translate intelligence into immersive executive training programmes, tailored workable business strategies, co-authored academic and industry papers, and a global calendar of industry events, beginning with the inaugural TAAG Leaders Forum at Bristol’s Temple Quarter campus in Q4 2026.

TAAG brings to this partnership a 30-year track record of transforming complex, deep-tech advanced manufacturing businesses, and a body of proprietary methodology, the Plateau Principle, the Granite Principle, and the SEAM industrialisation framework, developed through direct operating experience in some of the most technically demanding environments in the sector. Through products including The Profit Engine, TAAG equips manufacturers and SMEs with the business architecture to unlock enterprise value. TAAG also incubates technology start-ups within the AM ecosystem and delivers international industry events across the Gulf, South East Asia and the Far East.

Most advanced manufacturing businesses cannot build enterprise value at scale. Add to that structural problem, there are new dimensions from a new era that challenge their operating model through accelerating digitalisation, supply chains fracturing under geopolitical pressure, and sustainability obligations.

I’m proud that TAAG has been invited to be the launch partner of the Advanced Manufacturing Observatory, a new type of knowledge accelerator, to provide modern, real-time industrial leadership strategy. The global TAAG Xchange programme makes sure that knowledge travels, scales and reaches the right people, in the right place at the right time.
Daniel Johns, Founder, TAAG

The University of Bristol Business School’s role as the UK academic anchor is the first node in a deliberate global knowledge corridor. As the program expands, with events in Germany, the UAE, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan across 2027, the University of Bristol Business School colleagues will travel with TAAG to establish local academic partnerships in each region, ensuring the knowledge and networks created in Bristol flow directly into local industry through strategic local academic institutions. The model is designed to make industrialisation knowledge genuinely portable, created at the frontier, validated by research, and diffused through a network built to reach the markets where advanced manufacturing will grow fastest.

The University of Bristol Business School brings world leading research excellence in advanced manufacturing, supply chain strategy, and technology and society, together with its landmark Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, opening September 2026, as the partnership’s UK anchor venue.
