Tharsus signs weed control system agreement

Tharsus has agreed a deal to collaborate with Weeding Technologies to manufacture a new weed control system for the amenities market.

Tharsus, which specialises in Original Equipment Design and Manufacture (OEDM) development, will work with the British non-toxic weed control specialist to develop a system of weed control in public spaces such as parks, play areas, sports fields, roadways and watercourses.

Once development is under way, both companies confirmed they intend to sign a long-term manufacturing agreement, which will see the new product being manufactured at Tharsus’s Blyth facility.

Brian Palmer, chief executive of Tharsus Group, said the agreement is an example of a relationship between a business with a strong IP focus and an OEDM specialist.

“This is an exciting project, which will fully engage the skills and ingenuity of our designers and engineers.  We have invested heavily in our development and manufacturing facility in North East England, which will enable us to meet the challenges of this project and lead to strong and successful relationship with Weeding Technologies.”, he said.

Tharsus will develop the new product around Weeding Technologies’ Foamstream technology, taking on responsibility for everything from system integration and design for manufacture through to supply chain and cost management.

Undertaking this will allow Weeding Technologies to focus on creating Intellectual Property, which is said is central to its long-term success having previously led to private equity investment.

The company’s chief executive Mike Lamb added: “The unique approach to product creation and manufacture Tharsus provides will not only add value to our technology, but enable our business to concentrate on market development and engage with potential export territories.

“We have great confidence in the opportunities for this product and working with Tharsus will ensure our vision is delivered.”

The Manufacturer is running the Inspiring Innovation in Manufacturing conference on October 16 in London. Speakers at the event include James Godman of AgustaWestland and Stephen Cousins of Axon Automotive.
