Aerospace and defence systems manufacturer, Cobham, has been named by Management Today as one of Britain's 'Most Admired Companies'.
The Group has been ranked 10th among 236 companies surveyed for this year’s annual list, up from its 2008 rank of 47th — and second only to Rolls-Royce in the aerospace and defence sector. Cobham also tied for 8th place among the ten most admired British companies for “their ability to attract, develop and retain top talent.”
Chief exec Allan Cook has steered the group to a pre-tax profit of £280m for the year, with revenue up 13% on 2008. He steps down in January 2010 after eight years on the board, passing command to COO, Andy Stevens, who inherits an order book worth £2.5bn.
Said Cook: “This is a fantastic achievement and we are all delighted with the results of this important survey, given that the ranking is decided by industry peers and City analysts. The development of talent within our company is a critical success factor as we continue to grow internationally. However, we cannot afford to be complacent — we have to strive to be number one.”
