Toyota is expanding its U.S. manufacturing operations with a $912m investment across five plants, creating 252 new jobs and increasing hybrid vehicle production, including hybrid-electric Corollas.

The expansion spans facilities in West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Missouri as part of Toyota’s broader commitment to invest up to $10bn in the U.S. over the next five years.

  • West Virginia: $453m, 80 jobs – increasing assembly of hybrid-compatible engines, transaxles, and rear motor stators.

  • Kentucky: $204.4m, 82 jobs – adding a machining line for hybrid-compatible engines at Toyota’s largest plant worldwide.

  • Mississippi: $125m – introducing hybrid-electric Corolla production at the Blue Springs plant.

  • Tennessee: $71.4m, 33 jobs – expanding production of hybrid transaxle cases, housings, and engine blocks.

  • Missouri: $57.1m, 57 jobs – adding a new cylinder head production line for hybrid vehicles.

“Customers are embracing Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, and our U.S. manufacturing teams are gearing up to meet that growing demand,” said Kevin Voelkel, senior VP of manufacturing operations. “By adding American jobs and investing across our U.S. footprint, we continue to stay true to our philosophy of building where we sell.”

Currently, Toyota assembles roughly half of the vehicles it sells in the U.S., with North American facilities producing over three-quarters of all vehicles sold domestically. This latest investment reinforces the company’s ongoing strategy to reinvest profits in local manufacturing and grow its hybrid vehicle lineup.
