Crawley-based laser manufacturer Powerlase has defied the credit crunch to set up a new facility in Japan.
This will be the company’s second presence in the Far East – it already has a service centre in Daegu, Korea as well its HQ in Crawley, West Sussex. The aim of the move is to take advantage of the TV manufacturing market there to which it supplies cutting edge laser technology, and further its expansion in the growing photovoltaic (PV), and active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display markets.
The Japanese facility will be headed by Takanori Uematsu. He said: “Powerlase is well known within the Asian marketplace, particularly for the success within the FPD manufacturing market. The establishment of a local Japanese office will be fundamental in securing a presence within newly emerging markets and I’m looking forward to building the company’s profile in these growing sectors.”
Powerlase received a Queen’s Award for International Trade earlier this year.
