Global contact lens manufacturer, CooperVision, has recently completed its latest phase of growth and investment with the completion of a new 31,000 square feet manufacturing space in Speedwell Close, Chandlers Ford, Hampshire.
To mark the completion of work on the building’s shell, a small opening ceremony took place yesterday with a presentation and the unveiling of an official plaque.
The site was acquired by CooperVision in March of last year and required extensive renovation works in order to turn the old warehouse into a manufacturing facility. Commencing in May 2013, the work undertaken included the use of 100 tonnes of steel to upgrade the portal frame and 250 tonnes of concrete to enhance the building’s foundations.
The next focus at Speedwell will be the installation and verification of production equipment featuring the latest technology for fast, high-volume delivery. Production is scheduled to commence during 2015.
Speaking at the new site, Mark Foss, central engineering and facilities director for the UK, said: “It has been a great project to be part of and the project team has been extremely committed to a very tight time line in order to have the facility ready to receive the first piece of production equipment.
“The production facility at Speedwell Close will boast some of our newest high technology equipment with advanced levels of automation and will produce our latest products. It’s an exciting time for everyone and we look forward to seeing our latest products coming off the production line.”
