Employees voting on strike action at the Molson Coors Brewery in Butron-on-Trent have announced plans to hold a public demonstration in Burton-on-Trent this Saturday.
The demonstration has been organised by the union Unite and is designed to capture public support for the brewery’s employees said union leaders.
The industrial dispute underway at Molson Coors has arisen over changes to staff contracts. Proposed changes would impact on shift patterns, notice for shift changes, and pay.
Unite claims that pay for 184 workers could be reduced by as much as £9,000. The brewery – Britain’s largest – employs 455 people in total.
In April, workers at the Brewery, which manufactures Calring, Grolsch and Cobra beers, balloted for stirke action. The results are due next Tuesday, when talk between workforce leaders, union representatives and Molson Coors management are also due to take place.
The demonstration in town this Saturday will raise public awareness of the dispute said Unite leaders. It will be held at The Octagon Centre in Burton-on-Trent.
