Japanese automotive giant Calsonic Kansei has pledged to invest a further £11.4 million in its Welsh plant to enable upgraded manufacture at the site.
Government has agreed to put up a £3.2 million cash injection into the upgrade from its Single Investment Fund in order to enable the project to go ahead.
The move will see 37 new jobs created at the factory In Llanelli which already employs 237.
The investment is necessary to enable the site to handle production of the company’s next generation, lighter and more efficient automotive components.
The future of the factory, which supplies air conditioning and engine cooling equipment to many major marques, had been speculated upon before this latest development was announced.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, leader of Plaid Cymru and Welsh Assembly Minister for the Economy and Transport said: “The planned investment is significant in terms of value – particularly in the current economic climate – while the introduction of next generation products at Llanelli should support the future development of the plant. I am also pleased that the investment will not only safeguard existing jobs at the plant but create a number of new high quality jobs.”
