A mechanical engineering company has sold its engineering department to a rival company after falling into administration, saving 50 jobs.
The division of Taylor and Sons, based in Cardiff and Port Talbot, which specialises in specialises in bridges, river engineering, flood defences, marina gates, piers and jetties, listed structures, signal gantries and rail infrastructure, has been bought by fellow Welsh firm TEMA Engineering. The companies’ engineering departments will now be merged.
Andrew Marinos, operations director of Tema Engineering, said: “While the engineering division of Taylor & Sons was unfortunately impacted by other elements of their business, it nevertheless remained a successful and well-respected structural specialist.
“It is an excellent fit with Tema and together the businesses will create a single concern with the financial strength, skills and customer base to create an enlarged and formidable concern.”
Administration firm Grant Thornton said it will now concentrate on selling the remaining parts of the business which employ a further 30 people.
Taylor and Sons dates back to 1875 but has fallen on hard times of late due to the decline in the steel industry. It has marine, railway and highway departments as well as engineering.
