Who will be crowned manufacturing Apprentice of the Year?

Posted on 18 Jun 2013 by Tim Brown

The Manufacturer is committed to the development of long-term skills in the industrial sector and is supporting employment and training through the creation of a new apprenticeship award as a part of The Manufacturer of the Year Awards 2013.

Apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity for skills acquisition and a good apprenticeship will provide a great opportunity for a young person or someone who is returning to work to earn while they learn, gain a nationally recognised qualification and valuable work experience.

Many manufacturing organisations have undertaken to invest in the future of UK manufacturing by creating apprenticeship programmes but much more needs to be done to encourage more people into the sector.

It is crucial that the manufacturing industry takes every opportunity to increase its pool of skills and securing an apprentice is a great step forward.

The Apprentice of the Year category seeks to recognise and acknowledge an apprentice’s outstanding performance within their training framework and help develop them as an ambassador for vocational qualifications.

Judges will look for hard work and commitment to achieving the best possible results across the apprentice’s chosen framework. They will also take into account the significance of the apprentice’s work to their employer’s business.

There are no age restrictions for this category and applicants can be on an intermediate, advanced or higher level apprenticeship programme in any discipline but must be employed by a manufacturer. Apprentices must be working towards or have completed an apprenticeship during 2013.

Key to the popularity of The Manufacturer awards programme is that applying is free* with a simple and straightforward entry process enabling any organisation, regardless of size or sector, the opportunity to compete for UK manufacturing’s most prestigious accolades.

Entries will be accepted from any UK-based manufacturing facility whether it is privately, publicly, domestically or internationally owned.

Entries close on Wednesday 31st July 2013.
