As a sector, manufacturing creates more data than any other; however, it also wastes the most too. Why is this and, more importantly, what needs to be done to readdress the balance?
These questions are very much front of mind among the business leaders The Manufacturer has spoken to as part of its research for Industrial Data Summit (18 April, London).
Some of the feedback we’ve received from some of the UK’s biggest manufacturers is very revealing.
For example, Andrew Carroll, head of manufacturing engineering A350 at Airbus, said he wants to understand how other manufacturers gather data, turn data into value-add, and the best process for deciding which data to collect.
Chief engineer of BAE Maritime, Andrew Carr shared his perspective, noting that he was interested in understanding the difficulties in collecting data across diverse system, as well as the opportunities, issues and vulnerabilities in the cyber security domain.
While there is clearly agreement on the importance of tackling UK manufacturing’s data challenge – there is not a one-size-fits-all, off-the-shelf solution, which is why we expect the conversations at Industrial Data Summit to be so interesting.
As the country’s largest gathering of data-minded manufacturing professionals – with 100+ manufacturers in the room, we’re excited to hear what the answers are to these questions and many more.
If you are interested in joining your peers for these conversations, you can see the full line up of speakers and discussion topics in the conference agenda which you can download here. We’re confident that we will find the answers we need in the conference!
