Sportswear manufacturer Adidas, supplier of the football at this year’s FIFA World Cup, is giving fans a new perspective by showing the findings of six HD cameras installed in the ball.
The German giant, which unveiled its ‘Brazuka’ tournament ball at the end of last year, is kicking off a weekly series of online documentary-style films in the lead up to kick off on June 12 in Brazil.
‘Brazuca around the world’ was shot via ‘Brazucam’, a technology allowing the ball to experience the capture footage from 360° angles, supported by Adidas’ image stabilisation software.
The films will show the journey of the ball as it ventures through Spain, Germany, England, Russia, Japan, the USA and Mexico before reaching Brazil.
It will also feature appearances from football stars including Xavi Hernandez, Dani Alves, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm.
For the next seven weeks, one film per week will be released through the Adidas Football YouTube channel and on Twitter via the @brazuca handle.
Adidas said weaknesses in emerging-market currencies like Russia’s ruble and Argentina’s peso will weigh on the company’s results into 2014 and may threaten its 2015 growth targets, despite the expected positive impact of the soccer World Cup in Brazil later this summer.
Adidas, the world’s second largest sportswear manufacturer and sponsor of the World Cup since 1970, is hoping for a big impact on its global sales as a result of this year’s tournament.
Having signed a deal with FIFA last November to extend its commercial sponsorship of the tournament for a further 60 years, the company said last month that weaknesses in the emerging market currencies like Russia And Argentina may impact on its results into 2015.
