Babcock International will continue its support for one of Scotland’s established community sporting events, with the Babcock 10K Series set to return in 2027 to mark a decade of the company’s title sponsorship.
The milestone follows 10 years since Babcock at HMNB Clyde became title sponsor of the series in 2017. The 2027 events will celebrate the partnership between the engineering and defence group, local communities and the organisations involved in delivering the races.
Originally launched in 1983, the series has become a fixture of the Scottish athletics calendar. Participation has grown since Babcock’s sponsorship began, with almost 2,200 runners taking part across this year’s events in Shettleston, Dumbarton and Helensburgh. Among the participants were 235 runners representing Babcock, the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence.
Dale Smith, Site Managing Director at Babcock Clyde, said the series demonstrated the company’s commitment to supporting communities in the areas where it operates. The event had developed beyond a sporting competition into an opportunity to bring together employees, families and local residents, he added.
The Babcock 10K Series is one of the highest profile and most enduring mass participation events in the Scottish sporting calendar, having originally began life as the Polaroid 10K Series in 1983.
We like to think that the Babcock Series adopts a model approach to community cooperation in delivering major sporting events for our host communities.

The 2027 programme will include commemorative finisher medals and a limited-edition 10th anniversary T-shirt. It will also build on existing partnerships with Glasgow Warriors and Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), including Robin House Children’s Hospice in Balloch.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, £1 from every race entry will be donated to CHAS. The event’s timing and entry partner, Protay, and online promotional partner, RUN ABC, will also contribute their administrative charges.
The three events scheduled for 2027 are the Babcock Shettleston 10K and 2K Family Fun Run on 9 May, the Babcock Dumbarton 10K on 20 May and the Babcock Helensburgh 10K on 27 May.
Babcock said the anniversary year would reinforce its focus on wellbeing, teamwork and creating opportunities for employees and local communities to come together through sport.
