The Daily Express reported that the MoD has prepared a list of “red line” issues around the merger.
According to the newspaper, the Government wants guarantees that the defence division is run from Britain and by a Briton before giving its approval to the deal. A&D jobs would also need to safeguarded. A golden share in BAE Systems allows the Government to block the sale of the company to an overseas owner without its consent.
A source close to Government told the Daily Express that the merger “probably wouldn’t happen” if a decision was to be made today.
