BAE Systems invests approximately £90m per year in education, skills and early careers activities in the UK. This year, its bases in Lancashire will offer apprentices opportunities to work on the company's Typhoon and F-35 projects.
Aerospace giant BAE Systems have announced they plan to recruit 700 new apprentices in 2019.
The recruits will start working in the company’s Air, Land and Maritime businesses in September 2019 with almost half of the company’s UK apprentices at its sites in Samlesbury and Warton.
Total apprentice recruitment numbers will be 30% higher than in 2018 and will also recruit engineering technicians and business-focused apprenticeships to work at its Brough site in East Yorkshire.
Charles Woodburn, CEO of BAE Systems said: “With technology becoming ever more advanced and integrated in the workplace, it is crucial that we train the next generation of engineers and business leaders to develop the necessary skills which will be needed to drive innovation, solve complex challenges and build on our position as one of the UK’s most innovative and productive companies.”
Apprentices at the firm’s Samlesbury and Warton sites in Lancashire will have the opportunity to work on a unique range of projects including the Typhoon and the F-35.
The firm spends approximately £90m per year on its education, skills and early careers activities. Around 2,000 apprentices are in training across its UK businesses at any given time, with around 95% securing permanent roles each year.
The majority of BAE Systems’ apprentices train for engineering related roles and undergo a three to four-year training programme, with many progressing to study Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. The business also offers direct entry onto new degree apprenticeships.
Aspiring apprentices have until 28 February to apply for a role, which must be made via the BAE website. They can also attend an open day at the BAE Systems Academy for Skills and Knowledge in Blackburn on 7 February to learn more information. Those wishing to attend must sign up via BAE’s website.
