Aerospace manufacturer Boeing, already a customer of Siemens PLM, has signed a new 10-year contract with the software vendor to extend the use of Product Lifecycle Management technology across its product platforms.

Boeing has said that the past performance of Siemens PLM’s NX and Teamcentre products for product lifecycle management led to today’s decision.

Use of these products is now to be extended across both the Commercial Airplanes and Defence Space and Security businesses at Boeing.

Nancy Bailey, Boeing vice president of IT Product Systems pointed to the scalability and open architecture of the Siemens PLM products as key to the new investment decision. “The openness of the Siemens PLM Software will continue to support, and help us improve, the solutions we use throughout Boeing, creating additional business value for our company,” she said.

Chuck Grindstaff, CEO of Siemens PLM spoke of his pleasure at seeing Boeing, described as “the aerospace and defence industry leader” commit to his company’s products. “Boeing’s commitment to leverage the integrated Siemens PLM suite of solutions is a testament to our continued ability to bring the most innovative products to market to help our customers succeed,” he commented.

Boeing is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft combined. With an expanding product portfolio however, the company now also designs and manufactures rotorcraft, electronic and defence systems, missiles, satellites, launch vehicles and advanced information and communication systems.

Siemens PLM Software is a business unit within the Siemens Industry Automation division. Globally the software, which is designed to help manage product data across enterprises from initial concept through to end of life and, potentially, remanufacture, now boasts 7 million licensed seats and 71,000 customers.
