UK aerospace sector records best July since 2018

Following a record-breaking first half of 2023, the UK’s aerospace sector continues to be in good health. A new report from ADS, the trade association for aerospace, defence, security and space organisations highlights 112 aircraft orders placed in July. Find out more at The Manufacturer

JLR to reduce UK road freight emissions by 84% through new alternative fuel and electric powered transport fleet

JLR, the luxury car manufacturer, is reducing the CO2e emissions of its UK road freight fleet by transitioning to a combination of battery power, Bio-CNG and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) powered HGVs.

The switch is being executed, in collaboration with DHL and will achieve a minimum CO2e saving of 85% per HGV, on goods moving between JLR’s manufacturing centres, suppliers, and retailers in the UK. Find out more at JLR

Hyundai, LG to spend $2bn more on Georgia battery plant

Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution will boost their joint investment in a Georgia battery manufacturing plant by $2bn and add 400 additional jobs, the companies and the state said Thursday.

The facility, a joint venture between the two companies, now includes a total investment of $4.3bn and eventually will be able to produce about 300,000 electric vehicle batteries annually, the companies said. Find out more at Reuters

Balfour Beatty to inspire the next generation of engineers through new partnership with NMITE

Balfour Beatty has announced it has partnered with the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) – a new and innovative Higher Education Institution that is revolutionising engineering degree education in the UK.

BAE Systems sets up in Ukraine

At a meeting in Kyiv earlier this week, BAE Systems announced it has established a local legal entity and signed agreements with the Ukrainian Government to ramp up the Company’s support to Ukraine’s armed forces and to explore the supply of light guns to Ukraine. Find out more at BAE Systems

Digital Catapult launches Smart Nano Accelerator Programme to empower Northern Ireland manufacturers

Local technology consortium Smart Nano NI has launched a new accelerator programme led by Digital Catapult, the UK authority on advanced digital technology, to transform the manufacturing landscape across Northern Ireland.

The Smart Manufacturing accelerator will provide an opportunity for manufacturers to learn about and experiment with emerging technologies, in a bid to improve efficiency and drive sustainable sectoral growth as part of the Digital Catapult Smart Nano Accelerator Programme. Find out more at Digital Catapult

Bruderer enjoys post-pandemic resurgence

A UK manufacturing boom has helped one of the world’s leading press manufacturers secure its biggest pipeline of new machine orders for years.
