UK Regions and Nations see manufacturing jobs boost – Make UK/BDO Report
The number of jobs in manufacturing has grown in six of eight English regions along with Wales, highlighting the importance of the sector to hopes of levelling up across the UK by creating high skill and better paid jobs, according to the Make UK/BDO Annual Manufacturing Outlook Report released today. British car production continues growth in best May since 2019
UK car production rose for the fourth consecutive month in May, up 26.9% year on year, according to the latest figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). 79,046 units left production lines, 16,762 more than in the same month last year, as manufacturers defied the challenging economic backdrop to fulfil customer demand for the latest British-built models, at home and overseas, although the total was still down -31.9% on May 2019. John Crane receives UK government funding for CCUS project
John Crane in partnership with Cranfield University and The University of Edinburgh has been awarded £924,895.86 grant funding through the Carbon Capture, Usage & Storage (CCUS) Innovation 2.0 competition – part of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s (DESNZ) £1bn Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP).
The grant was awarded for John Crane’s innovative, high temperature sealing solution for supercritical CO₂ power cycle, and forms part of the British government’s multi-million boost to help UK businesses tackle carbon emissions, as the government encourages industry to stop using costly fossil fuels for cleaner alternatives. Elon Musk: Tesla delivers record number of cars after price cuts
Electric car maker Tesla says it delivered a record number of vehicles in the three months to the end of June, after cutting prices to boost sales.
It has lowered prices in markets including the US, UK and China to compete with rival manufacturers.

New research highlights BAE Systems’ contribution to British jobs and the economy
Research by Oxford Economics has revealed the extent to which BAE Systems contributes to the UK economy through jobs, research & development and national supply chains.
Last year, BAE Systems’ operations supported 132,000 full-time equivalent jobs nationwide, benefiting every region of the UK and the Company contributed £11 billion to GDP – equivalent to 0.4% of the domestic economy. Read more via BAE Systems
Manufacturing Assembly Network calls on reshoring drive
A group of manufacturers committed to promoting UK industry is urging the government to throw its weight behind a growing reshoring trend that has the potential to deliver millions of new opportunities.
Bosses at the Manufacturing Assembly Network (MAN), a collective of seven sub-contract manufacturers and an engineering design agency, believe the country has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring back work from low-cost countries as the demand for taking risk out of the supply chain intensifies. Successful launch for Airbus-built Euclid spacecraft
The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Euclid science spacecraft has been successfully launched from Kennedy Space Centre.
A high-precision 1.2m diameter telescope and payload module designed and built by Airbus will enable Euclid to explore the composition and evolution of the Universe including the role of dark matter and dark energy. Read more via Airbus
Diageo-backed paper bottle-maker toasts £20m funding round
A manufacturer of sustainable packaging backed by Diageo, the global spirits giant, will this week unveil a new round of funding to enable the delivery of a commercially scalable production line.
Sky News has learnt that Pulpex, which produced the first Johnnie Walker whisky bottle made entirely from paper-based products in 2021, will announce on Monday that it has secured financing from investors including CMPC, one of the world’s biggest pulp and paper companies. Read more via Sky News
