Toilet roll manufacturer on a roll after investing in new machinery

An eco-friendly toilet roll manufacturer has invested in new, state-of-the-art machinery to drive growth and bolster sustainability ambitions. Oldham-based Nova Tissue, which produces and packages 68 million rolls of toilet and kitchen paper each year, manufactures products on behalf of wholesalers and major retailers across the country, as well as 12 foodbanks in the local area. UK EV sales hit record-breaking levels in March

New data from New AutoMotive, a UK NGO, shows that electric vehicles (EVs) had their strongest ever start to the year, with sales of EVs up 38% on 2024 in the key month of March. The data signals a sustained rise in demand for electric vehicles as consumers are attracted by running cost savings and a better driving experience. More via The Manufacturer

The Quorum Principle takes centre stage with dedicated event

The first ever event dedicated to The Quorum Principle will take place in London and will be entitled ‘Radical Collaboration: The key to unlocking manufacturing value.’ The event will be taking place at the Royal Lancaster on Friday 16th May 2025. Held over one day, it will follow a unique format, centered around a proposed new, collaborative model for global manufacturing. Metal stars recognised at the Confederation of British Metalforming Awards

The leading stars of the metal industry were recognised last night (3 April), with a Gloucestershire-based manufacturer of vehicle structures for the automotive sector securing the main award. G-TEM, which works with many of the major car makers, was named as the Confederation of British Metalforming’s ‘Company of the Year’ at its high-profile gala dinner held at The Council House in Birmingham. More via The Manufacturer

Last UK steel blast furnaces could be days from closure

It has been announced that the UK’s last remaining steel blast furnaces at Scunthorpe could be just days from closure following the withdrawal of crucial supplies. Chinese company, Jingye, had bought British Steel out of receivership in 2020, but has rejected a £500m offer of public money as talks with the government broke down. More via The Manufacturer
