UK rejoins Horizon Europe and Copernicus
UK scientists will have access to the world’s largest research collaboration programme, Horizon Europe, through a bespoke deal with improved financial terms for the UK’s participation.
Now, UK researchers can apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon programme, with certainty that the UK will be participating as a fully associated member for the remaining life of the programme to 2027. Find out more at ADS Advance
Rolls-Royce to complete initial F130 engine testing for the B-52J by end of year
Rolls-Royce has announced that it is on track to complete initial F130 engine testing for the United States Air Force B-52J Stratofortress by the end of the year. Continued Rapid Twin Pod Tests at NASA Stennis Space Center in Mississippi have accomplished all of Rolls-Royce’s initial goals and allowed for the gathering of unprecedented amounts of data early in the program, further de-risking the integration of the F130 engine onto the B-52J. Faraday Battery Challenge boosts UK battery industry with support initiatives worth £3.2m
The Faraday Battery Challenge (FBC) has appointed three leading universities to share £3.2m in funding and support the UK’s regional battery sectors in identifying and addressing their skills needs to ensure the UK elevates its transition to electrification and remains a global industry leader.
The FBC, delivered by Innovate UK as part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), has awarded £700,000 to Coventry University to lead a consortium that will deliver the National Electrifications Skills Forum and Framework (NESFF). University College Birmingham and Newcastle University have been appointed to share £2.5m to deliver the Battery Workforce Training Initiative in their respective regions. Britvic partners with charity Bounce Forward to provide wellbeing and mental resilience training to 500+ students
As students return to schools across Yorkshire, 510 will begin weekly dedicated lessons for emotional wellbeing and mental resilience.
Following a multi-year corporate partnership with leading soft drinks manufacturer Britvic, announced earlier this year, wellbeing charity Bounce Forward will provide its expert training to a total of eight schools in the region – integrating classes into the core school curriculum of both primary and secondary school pupils. Diamond Light Source to benefit from £500m UKRI investment
The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Michelle Donelan toured the world leading Diamond Light Source facility this week to officially kickstart Diamond-II.
Diamond-II is a £519m investment by government, predominantly from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Infrastructure Fund and the Wellcome Trust.
The investment will be used to upgrade and expand the Diamond Light Source (Diamond) synchrotron facility based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Find out more at UK Research and Innovation
Digital switch to boost production for Ayrshire engineering business Omnitool
Irvine-based Omnitool – a family-run precision engineering business working in the oil and gas, renewables and nuclear sectors – is boosting its production capacity and plans to expand into new markets, create new jobs and cut emissions, following the introduction of new digital tools and expertise.
With £188,000 funding support from Innovate UK, Omnitool is working with the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) – operated by the University of Strathclyde and part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult (HVMC) – to develop the skills required to implement its digital upgrade.
