Enginuity funds new partnership to improve industry diversity with career returners
The aerospace and automotive sectors have joined forces to enhance industry diversity and equality and address the advanced manufacturing skills gap with a new employment programme, funded by the engineering and manufacturing skills charity Enginuity.
In partnership, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and ADS, trade association for the UK’s aerospace, defence, security and space sectors, alongside return-to-work specialists STEM Returners, have launched The Aerospace and Automotive STEM Returners Project. Hydrogen apprenticeship scheme introduced by GeoPura and Siemens Energy
GeoPura and Siemens Energy have launched a hydrogen apprenticeship scheme to address the shortage of skilled personnel in the industry.
GeoPura has already recruited four new apprentice engineers who will begin a four-year scheme, working towards a Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. They will work alongside Siemens Energy, which has recruited 12 apprentices to work at its Newcastle facility. More via H2 View
AMRC Training Centre steers new composite apprenticeship into South Yorkshire
The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre will become the first training provider in South Yorkshire to deliver a new composites apprenticeship in a move to sustain the longevity of the capability within manufacturing by creating its workforce of the future.
Together with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive, the AMRC Training Centre will deliver a new advanced level composites technician apprenticeship, in addition to the metallic machining apprenticeship the centre is already delivering with McLaren. More via The Manufacturer
Welsh Government cut to apprenticeship funding will have dire consequences for care sector warns industry body
A significant funding cut to the Welsh Government’s flagship apprentice programme will have dire consequences for patient and residential care, claims umbrella body for work-based learning providers the National Training Federation for Wales (NTFW).
For its next 2024-25 financial year the Welsh Government plans to cut funding for apprenticeships by 24% after being unable to plug the gap from the loss of EU funding. As a result the NTFW said the number of apprenticeship new starts in 2024-25 will be halved to 10,000. More via Business Live

Armed Forces lead the way on Apprentice take-ups – with 40 different schemes to choose from
When it comes to apprenticeships in the UK, the Army leads the way, with no less than 40 different schemes to choose from.
The Army is a huge supporter of apprenticeships, with 90 per cent of new joiners enrolling via a scheme. More via The Sun

Apprenticeships help award-winning Welsh butcher to launch new business
An award-winning butcher, who has competed against the world’s best in his craft, is using the skills learnt during apprenticeships to open a new shop in Farndon, near Chester.
Ben Roberts, 32, opens Astley & Stratton Ltd, replacing the Griffiths Butchers shop which had been based on High Street for 200 years. The previous shop’s retiring manager Jeremy Turner worked there for 46 years. More via Business News Wales
