UK manufacturing industry’s ‘amazing adaptability’ revealed in five-year study
UK manufacturers have demonstrated amazing adaptability during a period of unprecedented major disruption, according to a new report published by Protolabs and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
The report, How Five Years Shaped the Future of UK Manufacturing is based on annual surveys of more than 700 UK manufacturing executives and IMechE members over five years covering the years before, during and after the global pandemic and Brexit. More via The Manufacturer
British Army deploys 3D printing in the field
The British Army is in the vanguard of the development and implementation of deployable additive manufacturing processes or to put it more simply, 3D printing in the field.
Through project Brokkr it has delivered a first for UK Defence, the means whereby the metal manufacturing process is taken out of the confines of a laboratory environment and placed on the back of a truck so that it can be deployed anywhere in the field. More via British Army
Siemens Healthineers invests £250m in new Oxford facility
Siemens Healthineers has announced a new facility in North Oxfordshire that will design and manufacture superconducting magnets used in healthcare facilities globally for MRI patient scans. With an investment of £250m, the site will be home to novel technology that minimises the use of helium, making scanners lighter, easier to install and more sustainable. Construction has begun on the 56,000m2 site, which will support more than 1,300 skilled jobs. More via The Business Magazine
Industry calls for extension of Devolution Deals across the whole of England to boost levelling up agenda
Britain’s manufacturers are today calling on the next Government to make rolling out Devolution Deals across the whole of England a key local growth priority in order to bring the benefits of devolution to areas currently left behind.
This should involve a more structured process which pulls together existing local authority and devolution legislation into one powerful devolution act, and include the introduction of US style ‘bond referendums’ to raise funds for regional infrastructure projects which are struggling to get national funding. Stanlow celebrates a century of powering Britain
EET Fuels, which owns and runs the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, one of the most advanced refineries in Europe, today announces the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Stanlow Refinery.
Established in 1924 as a bitumen production site, Stanlow has been a vital pillar of the UK’s energy sector for a century, providing essential products and transportation fuels and supporting both the nation’s and North West’s economic growth. More via APN News
Friedheim snaps up GUK distribution deal
Post-press kit supplier Friedheim International has secured the rights to distribute GUK machinery in much of the UK.
The deal was agreed earlier this year, and went live on 1 May.
It allows Friedheim to sell and service German manufacturer GUK’s range of specialist, miniature and multi-purpose folding machines in the mainland UK, with Northern Ireland excluded. More via Printweek
Brandauer presses on with £3.25m investment and King’s Award success
One of Birmingham’s most respected manufacturers has completed a £3.25m investment drive to celebrate a rare King’s Award for Enterprise achievement.
Brandauer, which employs 64 people at its Newtown factory, has just commissioned its fifth high-speed Yamada press that will help it deliver quick changeover sub-contract stamping capabilities – ideal for clients requiring high speed, precision accuracy and multi-tool transfers.
