Alstom partners with STILFOLD to make train manufacturing greener
Swedish design and technology company, STILFOLD, has announced a new partnership with high-speed train manufacturer Alstom, which will see the companies explore how STILFOLD’s origami-inspired manufacturing technology could be used to make building trains more environmentally sustainable.
STILFOLD’s patented manufacturing technology, dubbed ‘industrial origami’, involves the use of robotic arms to fold flat sheet metal over curves to form strong and sustainable new structures, using minimal component parts. Find out more at The Manufacturer

Leonardo data scientists to support UK Armed Forces’ Cyber Operations in new 3-year contract
Leonardo has won a competition to provide its expertise in data science, data engineering and data visualisation to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) as part of its Cyber Mission Data (CMD) programme.
The contract is worth up to £9m and will see Leonardo provide expert support over the next three years, helping the UK’s digital defenders protect the nation from increasingly sophisticated and aggressive cyber attacks by hostile states and criminal groups. Find out more at Leonardo
Lockheed Martin UK Launches Team Black Hawk For UK’s New Medium Helicopter Requirement
Yesterday at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition, Lockheed Martin announced its intention to participate in the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) New Medium Helicopter (NMH) requirement. It outlined its team of UK partners and the benefits of choosing the advanced, Sikorsky Black Hawk® helicopter to replace the UK’s aging mixed medium helicopter fleet. Lockheed Martin also outlined its plan to collaborate with those UK partners to create a multitude of opportunities for UK industry, including jobs and opportunities in export, manufacturing and future technology development. BAE Systems secures additional £130m in MOD munitions orders
BAE Systems has secured an additional £130m of new orders for the supply of munitions to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). The award follows the decision by the MOD to exercise the option to increase the supply contract announced in July from £280m to £410m. Find out more at BAE Systems

Nissan helps school children go digital with computer donation
Pupils across the UK have been given a digital learning boost thanks to the donation of 3,000 recycled computers from Nissan.

Global manufacturer Eaton plans to buy Helen of Troy headquarters building in West El Paso
Eaton Corp., a worldwide manufacturing company, plans to buy the Helen of Troy headquarters office building and adjacent warehouse in West El Paso and put some operations there.
